Since returning from SWY 18 in March 2006 Sara continued studying Peace- and Development at university in Sweden. She participated in several youth projects set in Brussels, and unexpectedly had a mini-reunion with Ethemcan from SWY 17 (Turkey delegation) – small world!
In June 2006 she participated in an exchange program with Universidad Ibero Americana and spent a month studying International Relations in Mexico City.
After yet another semester at Vaxjo Uni she set off to Nairobi, Kenya to do research for her bachelor thesis. Living among zebras and giraffes an hour outside of town and spending the days in Kibera, the biggest slum area of Nairobi, this was one of the greatest learning experiences in Sara’s life. While there she took the opportunity of meeting up with some ex-py’s from SWY 18: Charles, Dickens and Patrick. She also made sure she could go back to Mombasa for some slacking on the beach!
Sara spent two cold weeks of late January in Sweden defending her thesis and rushing around the country to meet up with friends and family before heading off to Windhoek, Namibia, where she is now living. She is doing an internship with UNESCO Windhoek Cluster Office, being the focal point for youth projects and projects aimed at empowering the San people in the northern regions of the country. In addition to working she is also taking hip hop and kick-box classes, eating good game, traveling around the beautiful country and meeting people from all over the world. No one knows how long she will stay in Namibia, but it could be for yet another year.
