Education; symbiosis between individuals and societies

Annelie Gustavsson will be advisor for the course discussion group “education”:

“Tell me, and I’ll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I’ll understand.”

This proverb illustrates a core concept in education, namely the importance of involving the learner. In this course, the learner will be encouraged to participate actively in answering two key questions. Firstly, how can education be used as a means to provide young people with the skills required in today’s society? Secondly, how may these skills be applied once acquired?

We will encounter a wide range of issues. Alongside exploring education from a global perspective by looking at facts and figures, we will discuss topics such as personal entrepreneurship, equality, bullying and drugs.

The pedagogical approach during the sessions will vary, however opportunity for active participation by all PYs will be provided; interaction between students will be an essential component. Individuals and societies from across the world have much to offer each other through sharing of experiences, observations, ideas and thoughts. The diversity of culture and background of the PYs constitutes a rich and extraordinary basis that allows us to explore the large field of education in a unique way.
